Privacy is an important factor in improving quality of life on board, from the use of space to co-habitation with other guests or members of the ship’s crew. The test is carried out by using a white noise test source placed near a cabin or passageway, where the level of sound pressure is measured in the receiving cabin.
In addition to receiving a numerical value with which to measure privacy, this is a useful tool for builders and engineers to better determine the quality of materials used, whether it’s determining the quality of given noise-cancellation materials or determining which doors to use in the future.
The results of this test are not a simple measurement of the source-receiver differential, they are produced through a 1/3 octave analysis.
