SERVICES

Each service is extended with the report that includes all the values measured during the sea trial and all the calibration certificates of the instrumentation.

This report is updated every six months or annually depending on the instrument.

EMI Tests

From a long experience gained in the military field, SEA TECH is able to perform the following EMI measurements:

  • Hazard field measurements from 1MHz to 40GHz with omnidirectional probe
  • Radar measurement surveys up to 40GHz
  • measurements conducted by means of current clamps up to 400 Ampere and LISN lines
  • GTEM cell measurements up to 2GHz for both radiate and susceptibility
  • Instrumentation for analysis up to 22GHz

With this instrumentation it is possible to carry out analysis and research of electromagnetic interference.

Harmonic distortion analysis and measurement according to MMI / RINA standards for voltage and frequency deviations on generators.

Thermography

The need for infrared vision arose for some types of merchant and military ships: since then, after a significant commitment of resources, it has also been made available to recreational boating.

Strain Gauge

Strain gauge tests are typically performed on any type of material, multi-point using HBM aeronautical instrumentation.

SEA TECH technicians install the strain gauges, carry out the wiring, perform the measurement and data analysis.

Destructive tests were also performed on structures, tests on sailboat masts, dry docks, both steel and composite hulls, military guns, antenna masts. The crane of the SAIPEM platform was also instrumented.

Pressures induced by the propeller on the stern vault

This test has its roots in the military and is quite unique.

The area of the stern vault near the propeller tip is instrumented with a series of pressure probes with an adequate frequency response and very high precision, so as to truly know the result of the propeller-hull coupling.

The analysis is performed as a function of time and frequency.

Bollard Pull

SEA TECH is able to perform fixed point pull measurement for forces ranging from 1 ton to 300 tons using certified load cells.

The test satisfies any classification body and is often performed in combination with the power test in order to know the rpm-power-pull curve exactly. The test satisfies any classification body and is often performed in combination with the power test in order to know the rpm-power-pull curve exactly.

Useful for the builder to know the quality of the built project and for the commander to have an idea of the behavior of the vehicle during service.

Vibrations

Vibration measurement can concern both comfort and mechanical or structural components on board.

For an analysis of a vibration phenomenon that can compromise the functioning, duration or stress of a construction part, it is necessary to act with a multipoint measurement system, which gives a complete idea of the problem and with which it is possible to know its extent and source in order to intervene.

Various improvements have been made to engines, gearboxes, axle lines, propellers and to more or less large portions of bridges and structures.

General alarm – Public Address

Recognized by various classification societies, the general alarm and public address test is a class requirement in terms of safety and is performed in every environment, whether working, common or cabin, comparing the background noise levels during navigation with the levels of the general alarm and public address system present.

Privacy test

For a better level of habitability of the spaces, of cohabitation with other guests or members of a crew, the measurement of the level of privacy is important.

The test is performed by installing a sample source of white noise near a booth or in a communicating booth and the sound pressure level present in the receiving booth is measured.

In addition to having a numerical value useful for evaluating the level of privacy, it can be a good tool for a builder or designer to improve the quality of the product by choosing the sound-absorbing materials or the type of doors to use in the future.

Of course the result is not a trivial difference between source and receiver but a 1/3 octave analysis is performed.

Noise and vibrations

The well-being of a person who travels as a tourist on a ferry, as a guest on a yacht or even more importantly as a crew member on board a ship, is affected by two sources of stress: noise and vibrations.

For this reason, our company has been committed over the years to providing noise and vibration measurements, using the best instruments on the market such as Bruel & Kjaer and HBM, in order to quantify and certify the levels found on board and to perform targeted analyses to resolve any problems that may affect the individual.

Seakeeping

Born from a military request, it was imported into the civilian sector to understand the response of a certain construction in very rough sea conditions.

The accelerations to which the hull is subjected and the ship’s motions are recorded during various runs performed at different courses and speeds.

Maneuverability

Using the same system needed for speed measurement, the IMO maneuvers are recorded, which are essential for ships over 100 meters but also useful for smaller constructions in order to create a characterization and a valid aid to the commander in case of need.

Fuel Economy Tests

At this time it is essential to know the real consumption of the engines installed on board and for this reason the company is able to measure consumption using up to 12 FLOW METERS certified with very high precision.

Speed

Speed certification is done using a highly precise TRIMBLE differential GPS-GNSS.

Every second, the coordinates, course, speed, number of satellites, identification number and signal strength of each individual satellite are recorded.

Torsional vibrations

The measurement of torsional vibrations is carried out using the same system for measuring power but by performing an analysis of the analog signal both as a function of time and as a function of frequency, in order to understand the harmonic components of the vibrational phenomenon.

Engine power

The power, torque and engine rpm test is performed using certified calibration torque systems based on strain gauges installed on the propeller shaft or stub.

There is no limit on rpm or axle diameter. Up to 16 axes can be instrumented and measured simultaneously. Accuracy has a tolerance of +-1%.
